PICDEM 2 Plus 2006 with Lumex Opto LCM-S01602DTR/M |

Greetings,
I'm a newbie with PIC Microcontrollers, and have been attempting to learn how to program it. I'm a student at the University of Arizona, studying Biosystems Engineering. I am currently working on my senior design project: we are measuring the concentration of water-borne pathogens using optical detection based on antibody-antigen agglutination. Essentially what I want to do is read a voltage signal that is outputted by our photodiode circuit and convert it to value that is displayed on an LCD.
I am having a difficult time trying to program my PIC Microcontroller. I have purchased the PICDEM 2 Plus 2006 Demo Board. I'm using an ICD2 with MPLAB and I have a PIC16F877A, PIC18F4520, and a PIC18LF4550. I've been trying to use the flex lcd driver for the 16x2 LCD's, but cannot get it to work. I've installed the demo version of CCS and ensured that I was using my PIC16F877A chip, since it appears that is the only one I have that is supported by the demo. CCS usually ends up crashing or I get a 'PCH is not installed on this PC' message. Sorry, if I come across as a complete idiot; my knowledge in this field consists of just a little C programming.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The demo doesn't support any of those PICs. Here are the ones
that the demo page says it supports:

The demo is a limited PCWHD compiler for the Microchip PIC®mcu's:
14-bit PIC16F877, 14-bit PIC16C544, 16-bit PIC18F458, and all 24-bit dsPIC30/dsPIC33/PIC24 DSCs. |
