Adding an unsupported chip in V3.249
PostPosted: Wed Jan 03, 2007 9:31 am     Reply with quote

I thought I would share my recent experience with adding the 18F4685 to version 3.249. It was not that difficult with a little help from CCS.

First go to Tools/Device Editor.... Select the PIC18F4680 and press Copy. Rename this file PIC18F4685.

Click the ICD Styles option dot and find "ICDS 18FX680". Press Copy and rename this to "ICDo 18FX681" (or whatever you want)

Now find "ICDo 18FX681", highlight and press Edit.

Change:
Debugger... Start Address: 017CC0....Size 025E
Reserved... ROM Start: 00017CC0.... ROM End: 00017FFF

Press Save.

Now press the PIC Parts option dot. Find PIC18F4685 and press Edit.

Under the Identification tab, press + and change:
C Device ID 4685
MPLAB ID 4685
HW Device ID 2761
HW Mask FFE0

Under Tools, press + and change:
ICD 18FX681 (just created above)

Under Memory, press + and change:
Program(words) 49152

Press Save.

Now go to PICC/Devices and make a copy of 18F4680.h and rename it 18F4685.h

Just change the top line to:
#device PIC18F4685
Save.

Should compile now if you select 18F4685. Adds a bit more ROM.
