Is my pic dead?
PostPosted: Tue Jun 06, 2006 6:14 am     Reply with quote

Hi,

every time I want to flash my board; I get this error:

I'm using PCW. So hex file is programmed but after verification it fails and gives the error. Another board programs perfect.

Is my PIC dead?

NB: This pic has had several ESD strikes as for testing. But it kept working. Now I want to update the software...

Probably dead. You may find as a possibility, that if the ESD, actually 'hit' the MCLR pin, the internal programming supply inverter has been destroyed. Hence it runs, but will not program (on older chips, 'Vpp' was sourced externally, but on newer chips, the voltage fed into Vpp, is only used as a 'reference' for the internal inverter - as such, it feeds into an internal comparator, and this lacks the protection diodes present on the other inputs...).

Best Wishes
