OK, I got curious... so I cut '1Hz LED' code, internal osc and nomclr. It compiles and PK3 likes it BUT I haven't a PIC to try to program, arrgh... I was sure I had 3 of them as samples as the number sounded 'familiar'.

I was thinking of passing on PIC16F785 which is updated to PIC16F1709. PIC16F1508 is also something that looks possible. Unfortunately the price is a problem for me. The PicKit3 is not available anymore, it got broken.

There are 'clones' of the PK3 available and seem to work,though they probbaly won't program newer PICs. Microchip forced me to upgrade from the reliable PICstart+ years ago. Then again, not too many PCs have REAL comports these days Smile
I would suggest finding a 'does-most-things' PIC. One with lots of memory, 2 HW UARTs, etc. I settled for the 'then new' 18F46K22, 40 pin, years ago and use the smaller 26K22 28 pin version.
