ICD3Err0031 Failed to get PC

Hello,
I have a pic16f876a controller. Connected at 5V. Crystal 12MHz.
MPLAB 8.92 CCS 5.025.
In debug mode I can program it and start it. But when I pause it I get the ICD3Err0031 failed to get the PC...
Anybody any clue where to look ???

Triple check the cable.
On some chips I've had to shorten it to <10cm to get reliable operation.

However on your chip this is commonly caused if the clock setting is incorrect. PLL with a crystal that is too fast for example. Post your fuses, clock setup etc..
