The only ultrasonic sensor I know of that produces an image is a Didson sonar for $50,000 or more. What sensor did you have in mind?

Well, the ultrasound equipment they use for babies works very well, BUT it has LOTS of number crunching going on and expensive hardware to be able to do that. There is a LOT of information you need to look at in the reflected signal to be able to create a picture, not just the delay - phase shift, wave distortion etc all have to be accounted for (I have friends that work for one of the big manufacturers of ultrasound equipment and being engineers, we compare notes when we get together). A decent image is a very complex task.

I didn't hear a clear question yet. Do you know how ultrasonic imaging works?

"range convert to image" seems rather to mean simple visualizing of 1-D ultrasonic sensor data, like e.g. a "fishfinder" does.
