PIC12F519 Compiler and development hardware
PostPosted: Fri Aug 28, 2009 1:26 pm     Reply with quote

I am starting a new design using the pic12f519.
I have not developed anything using the flash pics.
Does anyone have any suggestions on a which compiler I should use.
Also I need to buy a new emulator for this device, anyone have a personal favorite.

The 12F519 requires the CCS PCB compiler. You can get this compiler
free with MPLAB. When you install MPLAB, select Custom installation.
Then go to the "Third Party" tools section and make sure that the CCS
PCB compiler is selected for installation.

To use ICD2 to debug the 12F519, you would need to buy a special
"header" as described in this Microchip document:
http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/DeviceDoc/51292R.pdf
If you need to do hardware debugging to develop your application,
I suggest that you develop it on a 16F pic, and when you're done, then
re-compile the code for the 12F519. I think it's easier and less expensive
to do it that way.
