Which ICD/PICkit tool should be used with 16F687 for debug
PostPosted: Wed May 11, 2011 8:52 pm     Reply with quote

Hi,

Just start to work new project with PIC16F687. Development tools are CCS compiler and MPLAB IDE.

To be able to debug the code with break point and step over/into functions, a few questions:

1. Is PICKit2 or PICKit3 works with CCS for ICSP debug?
2. If PICKit2 and 3 does not working with CCS, which ICD shall be used?
3. With ICD device, any special header board (such as 16F690 header board) must be used or not?

Thanks,
Howard

Read the CCS faq on the topic:

I think that CCS only supports debugging with ICD2 and ICD3, and not
programming-only. Below in this thread, one person protests over and
over that it should work as a programmer. I don't work for CCS.
How do I know ? Email CCS about it.

Go to the Microchip ICD3 page. Download the Header Specification.
Search it for "687". Notice the part number of the required header.
