ICD-U64 pic18f2331 weirdness |

Hi, I received a few samples from Microchip for the pic18f2331
so device.
With the device on the board using the ICD-U64 I can read the configuration ID of the chip, Only problem is I am unable to write to the chip even using the test option on the PGMR.
I am using pins RB6/RB7/Mclr VCC and VSS, same as for use with the 16f
series of parts. Programming a 16f series part with ICD works fine.
Checked all the common stuff, CPU To pgm header lines for open/shorts
etc. All looks good.
Any ideas ?
Thanks Scott |

PCM All ground and VSS Pins on the device are hooked up. I measured
at the chip pins.
Very odd. Never seen a chip not pgm before using ICSP, normally is
very reliable

Ok, Finally figured out the problem. Its my ICD-U64 Programmer.
Something bizarre with it. It works great on the 16f parts, but these 18f
parts are a choke at this end. They flat out will not program. The programmer has 2.86 fw rev
I happened to have an old ICDU40 around here with a firmware rev of
1.39, way old at this stage. Anyway that old programmer programs my
part No problem.
The kick in the head was and its kind of funny, we got the new programmer so as to support the newer chips..
errrrrrrrrr
Thanks Scott |

I just updated the firmware of my ICD-U64 from 2.85 to 2.86 this morning and encountered the same problem trying to program an 18F452. I switched back to v2.85 and chip programs fine. |

Version 2.85 Firmware Works Good in my new ICD-U64. I just downgraded
Wow I Guess there is a bug in the 2.86 code.
Anyway I can now program my pic18f2331 with the new programmer
I think CCS needs to pull that 2.86 version from the website, its flat out
not working with 18x parts, The 2.86 code does seem ok with the 16x parts I tried 16f886,16f873.
Thanks Scott |
