Kill Switch Question

Hi,

I'm using a PIC18F6722 and I'm looking for a simple way to make a remote kill switch. The PIC itself is going to be sealed in watertight capsule and attached to a remote control submarine that it is controlling. The sub is generally set to run at about 2 ft underwater so most typical sensors wont work.

I am currently thinking of using another R/C receiver on a different frequency that would control a switch. This switch would control the link between the PIC and its power source. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you have communication to the PIC already via some radio link. If so then just add a kill command to your list of commands and use a circuit something like this to have the PIC shut off it's own power.

How about using the PIC Watchdog timer. If it does not get a valid command (including a null command) before the watchdog times out it kills itself. If you want to kill it just shut off the command transmitter.
