→Feedback: USB LCD Question?←

Hi,
I have received a bunch of character & graphic displays.
To 20x4 to 40x4, and to 128x128px to 320x240px.

I would like to use them through USB instead of the LPT common way(they are all 8-bit parallel)...
EDIT2: So this way i could power them through usb , use less cabling and enjoy many display at the same time

Forget about the graphic display, lets talk about the basic one ,, HD44780 controlled character displays...

Is it possible to create a parallel port emulator through a PIC18F2550 (or x4550) because i want to keep a minimum compatibility with popular software lcd on the market?

If not,, is it possible to interface & control a lcd via pure USB,,, no USB-2-UART drivers (i have like 3-4 com port project running on the RS232 CCS USB DEMO)?

I'm a good software programmer especially in Delphi and «cough» VB but i dont know where to look for the PIC side,,, no topic neither on CCS about that :(

Anyone did a project like that in the past ?

However, i have a question (maybe somebody have the answer)

Why we can control a HD44780 based LCD on 8bit and 4bit ?

Why 2 modes ?

Pro and cons anyone ?

4 bit mode saves I/O pins. 8bit mode i guess would be faster and more straight forward.
