max array size PIC18F4620
PostPosted: Sat May 13, 2006 9:41 am     Reply with quote

i have this array.
It displayed the characters correct to the fontdata of the "S"
Thereafter there is only junk
Can this be a problem with the array size?

Code:

// Declare and Init the font array data
char Font[96][5] = {
   0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00,  // 0x20, Space

   0x08, 0x1C, 0x2A, 0x08, 0x08   // 0x7f, DEL
};

And this is the routine to fill a string with fontdata
Code:

char *message,*text;

void max7221_fill_buffer(char *buffer) {
   int txtptr;
   int messptr=0;

   memset(message,0x00,50);
   for(txtptr=0;buffer[txtptr];txtptr++) {
      strncopy(message+messptr,font+((buffer[txtptr]-0x60)*5),5);
      message[messptr+5]=0;
      messptr+=5;
   }
}

Just a hunch-

There isn't a problem with the amount of RAM to store the array in, but looks like it's to do with how you're addressing it:
in CCS, an int = int8 = 8 bits, with a maximum of 256
this would tally with the 'S', as it's about 256 characters in to your array.

try changing your ints to int16's and see what happens.
