"Could not detect target chip"

Folks, that's what the ICD interface program says: "Could not detect target chip". Well, that's disappointing.

I'm a newbie to CCS and their entire tool kit. I have the ICD-U40 and a 18F4550 development board fresh from the store. I can verify the ICD is connected and communicating with the computer but I can't get the ICD software to pass the "Test Target" portion. I've checked the wall wart. (Its putting out 13.26v as opposed to the marked 9v. Grrrrr.. ) The jumpers on the board are set to be powered from the wall wart vs. USB. Any pointers on how to get things rockin? Wouldn't you know I'd get the goodies late on a Friday.

If you've got a solution I'd be happy to hear from you.. If not, I'll try support this comming week and post the solution here when I have one.

Go through the flow charts and especially look at the Connection Checklist
on page 13.

I did. It looks like either the dev board is dead or the ICD is not sending data through. The flowchart says "Call for replacement". I just hate it when I can't play with my new toys!

Make sure that PCWH has configured the debugger as serial. Look in the Debug Configure tab in PCWH once the debugger has been enabled. THe configuration defaults to serial.

The wall wart voltage shopuld not be a concern, as the supply to the PIC is regulated to 5 volts.
