I've never used Proteus.
The only time i've used a simulator is MPSIM (in MPLAB), and that is just to simulate a time delay or a computation.
Other than that, I use the PICDEM-2 to get a 'proof of concept' feel of what i'm trying to do. I feel it's just as easy and more realistic to use a development board than a 3rd party simulator. For one thing, the bugs in a simulator may become a headache. On a similiar topic, i've had a colleague use a simulator, such as Electronics Workbench, for his circuit. When the prototype boards came in, the simulator failed to account for switch bounce. Luckily, there was a drop-in chip that was able to replace the one originally simulated. Too many unforeseen circumstances if you rely on a simulator alone. |
