I am looking for tips on using battery power for my project, my porject is A GSM based SMS project, I have found a battery that can handle the pulse (2A) but I am not sure about certain things (below), the GSM needs 3.4v - 4v max 2A (pulse), I can use either a 3.6v or 3.9v battery
The PIC I will using will be a low voltage one so I should be able to run it from the battery. I will not be using a recharge circuit
1) Do I need any power conditioning smoth boost?
2) Should I consider a boost reg so the battery does not drop below 3.4v until it's totaly empty
3) Anything else I should consider?

When you battery is full and it's terminal voltage is high you will get away without additional power conditioning.

Yes, you should. You can step-up the battery voltage to 4V at the expense of step-up converter efficiency and circuit complexity. Whether you want to step-up or not depends on the battery life duration of your device.
