Component suggestions wanted

Greetings!

I am looking for suggestions on various components that might be good for a project I need to start.

Description:
I have an arm, mounted on a linear bearing, that is being moved up and down with a cylinder. I need to measure the amount of force/impact that the arm is striking a plate. I've thought about a force sensor or some kind of impact sensor. I thought I would sample the amplifier output at a high frequency if I used a force sensor, or something like that. The sensor needs to be smaller than .5" square/diameter and measure a max. of 1500g force.

Any suggestions? I've tried google and looked in various places but wanted to see if I could poll the expertise here and get some good ideas.

Υou can use an accelerometer. analog has some, but only up to 250g
