PIC18F2220 - Having problem with PICSTART Plus
PostPosted: Wed Feb 02, 2005 6:00 pm     Reply with quote

Hi,

I'm using PICSTART Plus, already updated to the newest version. I know that it is a beta version for programming on PIC18F2220, but I have to use it. The problem is when I programmed it, sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. Now, it's not working even on a brand new PIC18F2220. I think I'm missing something here. Could anyone show me what I can do to be able to write on 18F2220 with what I have?

For more information, I'm using CCS compiler and write to chip by using MPLab IDE.

Thanks in advance.

I tried this way and it works fine with 2.2uF capacitor. I pasted the post below in case someone need it.

"There are several devices in which a need has been found to slow down the VDD rise time for the part to get correctly into the proper test mode. PicStart Plus, Pro Mate II and PM 3 programmers are effectied by it. The 18F2x20 and several others were recently added to the list. Here is the note that will be added to the Readme files for these tools:

Some parts have been found to require a capacitor across VDD and VSS in order to program the part correctly in the socket. This is needed to slow down the VDD rise time which is needed for the part to get correctly into the proper test mode. A 10uf capacitor has been found to work fine for this situation.
The parts affected are:

PIC18F2525 PIC18F2585

Other parts that may have the same issue are:

PIC18F1220 PIC18F1320 PIC18F2220 PIC18F2320
PIC18F2331 PIC18F2431 PIC18F2410 PIC18F2420
PIC18F2455 PIC18F2480 PIC18F2510 PIC18F2515
PIC18F2520 PIC18F2550 PIC18F2580 PIC18F2610
PIC18F2620 PIC18F2680 PIC18F4220 PIC18F4320
PIC18F4331 PIC18F4431 PIC18F4410 PIC18F4420
PIC18F4455 PIC18F4480 PIC18F4510 PIC18F4515
PIC18F4520 PIC18F4525 PIC18F4550 PIC18F4580
PIC18F4585 PIC18F4610 PIC18F4620 PIC18F4680

For the following add atleast .1uf capacitor on each rail:
PIC16F737 PIC16F747 PIC16F767 PIC16F777"

Regards,
Ken.
