Of course you can keep it in the application, but as I said, you do need an
enable_interrupts(GLOBAL), to allow it to work.
The point is that the bootloader re-vectors the interrupts to work in the
main code. You were overwriting this re-vectoring code by telling the
bootloader to use a buffer... :(

Now it's working with Receive_buffer only in application.

You may also find the size of the bootloader has reduced significantly.
The code to handle the buffer would be a large part of why the loader
was larger......
